Keeping A Promise

A Devotion by Tess Martinez

You, my Lord, always keep Your promise. Honest, I always fail to keep a promise much more than I deliver it on time. This weakness I surrender to You and pray for Your anointing. You see my heart, but I can only do so much. There are a thousand things I’d like to do for the sake of many, but a lot of times my hands are full of concerns that terrify me and tend, to some extent, render me incapacitated.

You said, “Keep still for I am with you” (Psalms 46:10) You promised: “My grace is sufficient; it is perfected in my weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). My mind seems to think faster than I can write and most often the beautiful thoughts and inspirations slip my consciousness before I touch the keyboard.

Loving and gentle Holy Spirit enables me to remember His sweet promptings. Then, I get back to what I need to do. Warm days of summer keep my heart aglow. The soft late afternoon breeze and beautiful sunset remind me a day is gone. Night and darkness befall but radiant stars give me hope that in the stillness of darkness. Your heavenly creation is always there. How I wonder of Your magnificence and greatness!

When I Became Out of Focus

I have committed myself to a definite goal of service in my most quiet and Spirit-filled way. The noisy world and mundane concerns would take away my attention from the roadmap I have agreed upon with You. I know Your loving Hands lead me back to the road we must travel together. For indeed You said and I cling to it, “The journey is on. Go on My dear child and I will lead you.”

The Keys Keep Running.

My Spirit-filled heart longs to wait for You. My hand is ready to strike the keys. My soul longs to express the whispers of Your love. What does drizzle in the middle of summer mean, my Lord? Ah, just one of the “aha moments,” is quenching my thirsty soul. Is it making the desert and furrows of my heart drench with Your love? I feel them, I savor them. You are ever present.

You lead me to still waters; (Psalms 23:2)

You are with me and in me. No one can be against me. Your indwelling makes me whole and Your love and care are more than sufficient to sustain me. I fear not for Your light shines even in the dark. When the sun of my life sets in and troubles befall, You send the moon and the stars. Nothing amiss√Ę‚ā¨¬¶All is there, ever present and timely, available just in the nick of time. Yes, exact and with divine precision.

Your Rod And Staff They Comfort Me. (Psalms 23:4)

Comforting, caressing, never condemning is Your sweet correction. You are a God who is never angry. Like a doting teacher, You teach me patiently. You look not into my doing but more in my desire of being. Patiently You lead, You teach, You enable.

You Prepare A Table Before In The Presence Of My Enemies (Psalms 23:5)

I am shielded by Your love and covered by Your precious blood. No one can harm me. Not even put me to shame. For You said, “Your shame and dishonor have ended.” A feasting, it shall be when the time is ripe for us to celebrate the victory! Soon, very, very soon.

You Anoint My Head; My Cup Overflows (Psalms 23:6)

Your anointing of prosperity enables me. The time to be Your channel of graces is at hand. My heart is ready and my hands are open to Your leading of charity and love in the truest meaning. I will be the hope of many.

Surely, love and mercy shall follow me all the rest of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psalms 23:6).

I am: A life lived to the fullest in service of others by dying to myself-a refuge and hope too many-a channel of outpouring grace and mercy-a sanctuary for the tired and weary-a table set ready to feed the hungry-a warm bed for the needy and a dream fulfilled for the desperate. I give my all to Thee. Not just a promise but a covenant√Ę‚ā¨¬¶

One Response to “Keeping A Promise”

  1. Tess,

“I am: A life lived to the fullest in service of others by dying to myself-a refuge and hope too many-a channel of outpouring grace and mercy-a sanctuary for the tired and weary-a table set ready to feed the hungry-a warm bed for the needy and a dream fulfilled for the desperate. I give my all to Thee. Not just a promise but a covenant√Ę‚ā¨¬¶”

I embrace your declaration, your confession of who you are. I embrace it for my own heart.

    Blessings in Christ
