Examine Your Heart, Your Faith And Your Motives

      Print This Print This

Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves [not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you–unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected? (2 Corinthians 13:5 Amplified)

Some Questions We Might Ask

God is always in the middle of things that feel “all wrong” and totally “jacked up.” He will always set it right.

Are we healing the sick, casting out what torments us, curing those in need of a cure, bringing back to life, and freely giving – just as we have freely received?

Are we worshipping just because we were created to worship? Are we leading because we have been called by God or because people are calling?

He’s the only one who really knows the state of our hearts. Whatever happened to pure hearts and authentic spirituality? Whatever happened to allowing things to be sincere instead of programming them to look and feel that way?

Have we truly sold out to the audience and the hope of numbers – because we have goals? Are we manipulating situations, beckoning His power and aligning ourselves with that which will take us where we think we need to go? Are we peddling the Holy Spirit? Are we incapable of the level of faith required to let go of control? Have we let our own cleverness become our downfall?

Are we selling our souls in order to win popularity contests? Are we orchestrating and calculating responses? Are we trying to appear one way, yet nothing could be farther from the truth?

Are we talking out of both sides of our mouths? Does out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing, consolation and condemnation, love and hate, rudeness and grace?

Have all things good left the building…or just His church?

Prayer

Father God,

The last thing we want is to be about is ‚ÄúThe Greatest Show on Earth!” That was in fact the circus. Hopefully we are pressing onward to simply be about “The Greatest on the Earth – and in Heaven. Hopefully we are being about His business and not ours.

May we be ever mindful of our hearts… which births the thoughts…which leads to words… which tend to become our actions. And may we know our actions are never private and have the power to release life or infect with death. Help us to always choose life.

Father examine our hearts and purify them so that we may answer Your call to serve a desperate and broken church…the church where your “beloved” are in “quite a state,” and in dire need of a Savior who saves.

May we do all things in “sincerity and truth” leaving our masks of hypocrisy not only at the door, but literally at Your feet…in exchange for a filling in all the places we have great lack…so that our walk is pure and our devotion whole-hearted.

Thank you Father that you know and love us just as we are. Please don’t leave us there in our old ways of doing and being! Please don‚Äôt leave us where we are either‚Ķmay we be transformed from one glory to another.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
