There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. (John 1:6-8 KJV)
Even though this scripture is speaking of John the Baptist, it could and should speak to each of us. We could very well replace Johnâs name with our own name and this story could be ours.
God has sent each of us out into the highways, hedges, and to the uttermost parts of the world to bear witness of the same Light as John was to bear witnessâŚand of course, that Light was Jesus.
I am quite sure that many could tell similar stories as the one I am about to share. Even though I have had many such experiences, I am still overwhelmed that God still does such things.
This particular Sunday morning I was not traveling or preaching anywhere, and yet I clearly heard the Lord tell me that I was to preach that morning. I was certainly willing to preach, but I had no invitation to preach. However, because I felt such a strong urging of the Lord, I got in my car and started following what I believed to be His directions. After driving for a while I felt the Lord direct me to a church and tell me that was the church in which I was to give a âprophetic word.â
I said, âLord, I know You have given me a âprophetic wordâ for this church and You know that You have given me a âprophetic wordâ for this church, but they do not know that You have given me a âprophetic wordâ for them. However, I will make myself available by going in and waiting for You to tell the pastor.â
While I was sitting in the back of the church the pastor kept coming out and looking at me. He finally came back to where I was sitting and said, âWould I be right in saying that God has sent you here with a special âwordâ for us this morning?â I said, âYes.â I was invited to the pulpit and I gave the âwordâ and the power of the Lord filled the room that morning.
After the morning service I went home, but then that evening I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit moving upon me again as He had done that morning. I said, âHoly Spirit I know you performed a miracle this morning by leading me to a church to speak a âspecial wordââŚbut are you going to do that twice in one day?â I got in my car and started driving by faith in the direction I felt I was being led. After awhile I looked up and saw a big white church building and I felt the Lord say, âThis is the place.â I must admit I was a little intimidated and thought, âLord if You can pull this one off I will never doubt You again.â
I got out of my car and went into the church and sat down on the back pew. I had arrived at church early and no one was in the sanctuary except me. The pastor finally came out and nodded at me and returned to his office. In a couple of minutes he came out of his office the second time, nodded and returned to his office. He then turned around and came back to the sanctuary the third time and walked back to where I was sitting. He said, âThis is highly unusual but did the Lord send you here with a âwordâ for us?â I said, âYes.â
He then turned and went back into his office and stayed there until the church was filled. He then came out and said, âGod has sent a stranger here today with a âwordâ for us and I believe this man is sent from God.â I stood up, gave the word and the presence of the Lord filled the room.
I was sent to bear witness in those two churches that day. God touched and blessed the peoplesâ hearts and built the faith of both pastors.
Our desire is to always be sensitive to the leading of your sweet Holy Spirit. We truly want to be faithful in bearing Your Light as was John the Baptist. I realize Father how encouraging it is when You speak to us on behalf of someone else. Thank you Father for using us to bring prophetic words to others at just the right time.
